Breeding season begins

Birds in our care

The migratory birds are here, and the breeding season has begun. Swifts, house martins, and swallows, among others, have arrived in our province, coinciding with several consecutive days of rain and some wind. Fortunately, there have been no severe storms, and the birds have not been greatly affected. A few unsuspecting swifts have arrived, caught in the rain, but nothing compared to previous years. It's time to prepare for the arrival of chicks that have fallen from the nest or been abandoned. We will soon begin recruiting volunteers and placing food orders. 07/01/2025 La calma duró un suspiro. Dos días después de nuestra anterior actualización se produjo un episodio de DANA con granizo en el poniente almeriense, causando graves daños a infraestructuras y vehículos. Por suerte, la tormenta no se llevó ninguna vida humana, pero para las aves fue desastroso. Encontrábamos decenas de pajarillos inertes bajo los montones de hojas rotas en cada árbol en el que parábamos a echar un vistazo buscando supervivientes. Nunca habíamos visto algo semejante. La cantidad de aves que murieron en una noche nos rompió el corazón. Los días siguientes a la tormenta fueron muy duros. Llegamos a recibir 19 aves en menos de 24 horas, con todo tipo de lesiones a causa de los golpes por el granizo. Lo peor es que estos eventos extremos se seguirán repitiendo y cada vez con más frecuencia. Y a pesar de ello algunos todavía niegan en cambio climático. Gracias por todo vuestro apoyo.
