Kalaweit, to save biodiversity in Indonesia

Since 1997, Kalaweit has been working to save wildlife and forests in Indonesia. In Borneo and Sumatra, the association purchases hectares of forest to save them from deforestation and enable animals to live in a protected habitat. These forests become communal forests protected by Kalaweit. The association also owns 3 care centers with over 350 gibbons, siamangs and Malay bears in need of the best possible living conditions.

All funds collected through Teaming will be used for the acquisition and the protection of hectares of forest in Borneo and Sumatra. Deforestation is so rapid that all efforts must be made to preserve the forest. Kalaweit started a program to acquire forest land to them communal reserves that belong to the local communities, but Kalaweit is responsible for their protection.

Grâce à de nouveaux soutiens français et étrangers, nous allons pouvoir acheter plusieurs centaines d'hectares de forêt supplémentaires cette année. La réserve Dulan à Bornéo, qui abrite une population de 80 orangs-outans et 200 gibbons , devrait atteindre une surface de 2 500 hectares. Quant à celle de Supayang à Sumatra, où vivent des tigres de Sumatra, elle devrait atteindre 700 hectares cette année!
La déforestation continue d'avancer, en plus de l'huile de palme ce sont aujourd'hui les mines de nickel et de charbon qui dévastent les dernières forêts. Votre soutien est très important pour Kalaweit, avec votre aide on peut agir vite et sauver encore plus de forêts.
