El Capitán Animal Project – Our Commitment to Stray Cats Continues!
Dear supporters,
Recently, we joined forces with veterinarians and other animal welfare organizations to raise awareness about the impact of the new Spanish law Real Decreto 666/2023. These new regulations on medication administration, mandatory microchipping, and stricter prescription controls are not only making life more difficult for pet owners but also significantly hindering our work in animal welfare.
What does this mean in practice?
Stray cats without a microchip can no longer receive essential medication.
Life-saving treatments are delayed due to extensive testing and bureaucratic hurdles.
Veterinary visits are becoming more expensive, and medications harder to access.
Our volunteer work is increasingly restricted as we struggle to obtain necessary medications.
The direct impact on street cats
In recent weeks, we have sadly lost some of our rescued cats—not because of the new law, but simply because they were already sick and medical help came too late. Life on the streets is tough, and despite our best efforts, we are not always able to intervene in time.
Our mission continues!
Despite these challenges, we continue our daily work—sterilizing, feeding, and caring for stray cats, even as the conditions become more difficult.
We continue to advocate for changes to the law so that rescued and stray animals can receive medical treatment even without a microchip. Together with veterinarians and supporters, we are fighting for a practical solution.
