We are pleased to make two important announcements.
The first is that we have been enlarging both our Shems and Farm Refuge and have now been able to move all our dogs out of the Clebs Refuge. Although it was wonderful to find some a space when we needed it back in 2018, it has been very difficult to manage. It's location meant that there was no water or electricity and the conditions for both the dogs and the staff were very basic. We will make some savings by locating all our dogs in only two refuges, even though we have an ever increasing number of mouths to feed.
The other announcement is that we are once more entering into an agreement with the local commune in the city of Agadir to work with them on a TNVR programme. We have put a lot of work into making sure that there will be a humane approach to the programme and that it will last for the time needed to get the street dog population to a reasonable size and stop the spread of rabies. The commune are building a brand new shelter where the TNVR will operate from but it will be another 4 or 5 months before it is ready. In the meantime the commune is aiming to start an education and awareness campaign as well as reaching out to the neighbouring communes and municipalities to join in the scheme.
In the meantime we are still feeding dogs in the old city dog pound and rescuing the particularly vulnerable dogs. Last week we took in another 100 dogs.
