Benafim Dogs is a privately run dog sanctuary in the Algarve. We care for up to 30 dogs of all ages and sizes. The dogs have either been abandoned, surrendered or rescued from situations of cruelty and abuse. In addition we provide support to municipal kennels in the Algarve by taking out dogs who often have been incarcerated for years. Our ultimate aim is to rehabilitate and rehome each dog. We need your support to provide the care every single dog needs on a daily basis in the meantime.

Thanks to your support, we are able to help dogs like Bo, found so so skinny and sick and unable to stand as he was so weak. Today he has put on over 12 kg and is getting stronger by the day.

This is Atari. A few months ago he was found in the area local to the shelter. Apparently he escaped from his 'owners' but when we contacted them they didn't want him back.......abandonment is a huge problem in Portugal. It is a crime yet when reported nothing happens..... and if it ever does, it is years before a case gets to court. Back to Atari. We have been waiting for a space to come up at the shelter and in the meantime a neighbour local to the shelter has been feeding Atari. We provide the food and have sterilised him, updated his vaccines and had him tested for any illnesses - he is healthy! This is another way your teaming one euro is helping. Not all dogs we help are physically at the shelter. We now have a space available at the shelter so are in talks with the neighbour to see whether Atari will come to us or the neighbour will continue to care for him with our support. We will keep you updated. Thank you for your support!
